Eddie Donnelly - Firefighter and President of New Jersey’s FMBA
Based in Rahway, New Jersey, Eddie Donnelly has been a Union Fire Department firefighter since 2000 and held responsibilities as president of the New Jersey State Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJ FMBA) since 2013. Eddie Donnelly’s work with NJ FMBA centers on advocating on behalf of fellow union members on issues of workers’ rights, public safety, and public pensions. He also presides over monthly meetings, authors regularly updated bulletins read by subscribers statewide, and testifies on legislation.
In his role as a firefighter and EMT, Mr. Donnelly conducts fire suppression and hazardous material response and mitigation assignments. Trained in basic life support, he has earned meritorious awards for life saving incidents and responded to various flooding events and other emergency situations that endangered communities. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, he joined a team that rebuilt playgrounds in affected areas and he worked tirelessly to help others during the pandemic.
Mr. Donnelly served as a Connecticut Burn Camp for Children counselor for a full decade, helping burn survivors gain confidence and a willingness to interact with others. He monitored team-spirit building activities such as archery, sports, swimming, and rock climbing. An avid angler, he regularly fishes with his family off the New Jersey coast and also takes fishing trips to Florida in pursuit of sailfish.
